Winter Snow

Most Wonderful

Winter Snow by Audrey Assad

Recommended by Michelle

"Not a typical Christmas song but incredibly BEAUTIFUL."

I can't believe I got five days into the month of Christmas December without writing about a holiday song. I was excited to receive this recommendation! As much as I love the classics, it's always nice to add new music to the Christmas mix. I wouldn't want my playlist getting stale.

It's "not a typical Christmas song" because the only thing that makes it a holiday track is the titular winter snow. This isn't an entirely new concept (Winter Wonderland and Sleigh Ride, for example, never mention Christmas), but it's still refreshing.

Unlike other seasonal songs that don't mention "Christmas," however, Winter Snow is far from secular. As in many of Assad's pieces, the song is "being sung to God rather than about God" (x).

That said, I guess Winter Snow is originally by Chris Tomlin. Here, you can listen to the album version. It's still largely sung by Assad, but Tomlin harmonizes at points. It's quite nice.

Assad's voice is very sweet, and the piano is as gentle as the snow they talk about so lovingly.

Hope this helps you get into the mood for the upcoming holiday season.
